A powerful winter storm hit the Pacific Northwest on New Years Day. A deep surface low tracked across central and northeast Oregon, as well as southeast Washington. This resulted in heavy snow on the northwest side of the surface low track. Breezy winds in the Tri-Cities area also led to snow drifts up to 20 inches.
