Event narrative
The Forsyth county Emergency Management Director reported that an outdoor burning incident, fueled by gusty northwest winds at speeds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts over 30 mph and low relative humidity values in the 15 to 20% range, quickly turned into a ravaging out of control fire that destroyed seven homes and damaged 18 others. Vehicles and other contents within the homes were destroyed as well. Seven firefighters were injured during the incident.
