An excessive heat warning was issued during the daytime on August 11 and 13. The average temperature for August was 84.9 degrees. This was the warmest August in Pensacola ever recorded. The record high for August 11 was tied when the high topped out at 96 degrees. This tied the previous record back in 1974. A record high of 98 degrees was recorded on August 22. The previous record was 97 degrees in 1955.

Wider weather episode

Heat advisories were issued for a combination of high temperatures and high humidities. Heat index vales were between 110 and 115 degrees. Several public buildings and churches allowed people to come in and cool off during the heat of the day.
