The Roanoke Times reported that a 2-year old girl was found dead on September 1st after being left in a parked, closed van in southeast Roanoke. The high temperatures on the 31st reached 90 degrees for the first time during the month of August 2014. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene and apparently had died the day before when the outside air temperature reached 90 degrees in the 3 to 4 pm time frame that afternoon.

Wider weather episode

The first 90-degree day of August 2014 and one of the few 90-degree days overall of a very cool summer also brought a heat-related child death. A 2-year old girl left in a parked, closed van was found dead the following day.
