A thunderstorm produced a wind gust of 35 knots (40 mph) at Sandy Hook (Monmouth County). Along coastal Raritan Bay, wind gusts of 48 knots (55 mph) occurred at Perth Amboy (Middlesex County), 49 knots (57 mph) at Keyport (Monmouth County) and 34 knots (39 mph) at Port Monmouth (Monmouth County) with the same thunderstorm cluster.

The combination of a cold frontal passage and an unseasonably hot and humid air mass generated a series of strong thunderstorms that moved through the area waters during the afternoon and evening of the 6th.
