Multiple structure fires were reported due to lightning strikes.
Wider weather episode
Ample moisture and strong afternoon heating produced moderate to strong instability each afternoon with scattered strong to severe thunderstorms across North and Central Georgia. Slow moving thunderstorms with heavy rain setup over portions of North Georgia early in the morning on September 3rd. Rainfall amounts from 4 to 6 inches occurred in the Dalton area and caused flash flooding. Another slow moving thunderstorm with heavy rain produced isolated flash flooding south of Calhoun in the late afternoon.
