Event narrative

A 26 year old Marine from the Marine Wing Communication Squadron 18 based in Okinawa, Japan, was taking part in Exercise Valiant Shield and Forager Fury on Tinian. He went into the ocean on the northwest side of Tinian to cool off.

It was reported that he was swept over the reef. He may have been caught in a rip current. After a few days search by Saipan DPS, U.S Navy and Coast Guard crews he was presumed lost.

Rip currents on the north coast of Tinian claimed the life of a young U.S. Marine.
