Event narrative
The outer fringes of Tropical Storm Arlene affected the south Florida mainland as it passed from the northwest Caribbean Sea into the southeast Gulf of Mexico. Wind gusts of tropical storm strength were felt over land while sustained tropical storm-force winds occurred in the coastal waters along both coasts. The C-MAN at Fowey Rocks Light measured a peak wind gust of 48 knots. Heavy rain caused minor flooding. One woman died and another was injured when caught in a rip current along Miami Beach in the rough surf caused by the winds of Arlene.
