A fire scorched 70 acres of mainly brush near Waikele on the island of Oahu. A dozen residents in a neighborhood along Kaaholo and Kime streets had to flee their homes for a time because of dense smoke. The origin of the fire was under investigation. There were no reports of serious injuries or property damage.
