Buoy 42020 reported a thunderstorm wind gust of 39 knots.

Wider weather episode

A potent upper level disturbance tracked across South Texas on November 22nd. Unstable air that lifted along the Sierra Madre kicked off individual supercell thunderstorms in the lee of the mountains west of the Rio Grande Plains after 3 pm. These cells moved east across the brush country and ranch lands and over the lower Texas coastal waters. The storms brought gale force gusts to the Laguna Madre and the Gulf waters.
