A mesonet site located 6 miles north-northwest of El Paso recorded a peak gust of 63 mph. Other peak gusts included 62 mph 8 miles north-northwest of El Paso and 58 mph 5 miles north-northwest of El Paso.
Wider weather episode
An upper level trough was moving south through the Western United States and a strong area of high pressure was pushing into the plains. A back door cold front moved through the region and produced strong east winds up to 63 mph across the western slopes of the Franklin Mountains.
