Winds in excess of 40 mph and seas as high as 16 feet drove a 75-foot sailboat, the Hawaii Aloha, aground in waters west of Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. One crew member from this vessel was lost and presumed drowned. Five other boats were damaged or set adrift by the raging winds and seas. The cost of damages was not available.
