Event narrative

Strong to severe thunderstorms moved southeast across southern Lake Michigan during the late morning of July 30th. Seven sailboats participating in a race capsized in the high winds and high waves. Fourteen people were pulled from the lake but no injuries were reported. All the boats were eventually towed to shore with no damage reported. Four kayaks were also overturned near Oak Street Beach. No injuries or damage were reported.
