The Horse Fire burned 16,681 acres in the mountains southeast of Alpine and cost $6.8 million to extinguish. The Horse Fire was possibly ignited by a campfire abandoned by illegal immigrants. Five firefighters suffered heat related injuries. No structures were damaged or destroyed.
