Event narrative

Areas of dense fog developed across the Imperial Valley during the early morning hours on December 12th, affecting communities such as Brawley, Calexico, El Centro and Seeley. According to a trained weather spotter located 1 mile south of Seeley, dense fog lowered visibility to 1/4 mile at about 0700PST. The fog persisted into the middle of the morning, creating hazardous driving conditions during the morning rush hour. In addition, the dense fog resulted in the issuance of a Dense Fog Advisory for the Imperial Valley. Fortunately, no accidents or injuries were reported due to the dense fog.

Wider weather episode

During the morning hours on December 12th, areas of dense fog developed in the Imperial valley, running the length of the valley from the south shores of the Salton Sea to El Centro. Trained weather spotters reported visibilities reduced to just one quarter of a mile in dense fog. This resulted in hazardous driving conditions during the morning rush hour, and led to the issuance of a Dense Fog Advisory for the Imperial valley. Fortunately, no accidents or injuries were reported due to the dense fog.
