Event narrative

Strong winds from fast moving thunderstorms moving onshore caused an parasailing accident in Pompano Beach. Two teenage girls, aged 15 and 17, were on the parasail when the boat pulling the sail began to encounter strong winds and rough seas. As the boat headed back towards shore, a strong wind gust estimated at around 35 mph pushed the parasail carrying the 2 girls into the side of a beachfront hotel at 1200 S. Ocean Blvd.

The impact caused severe injuries to the 15-year-old, who did not regain consciousness and died the following day. The 17-year-old was hospitalized and released a day later.
