Event narrative

One to three inches of snow fell across Powell county. Icy roads in that area lead to a car accident in which one person was fatally injured.

Wider weather episode

Accumulating snowfall occurred across portions of eastern Kentucky from late in the evening of January 23rd through the early morning hours of January 24th. The highest snowfall totals generally occurred along and north of I-64, where up to five inches fell in Fleming County. Snowfall amounts decreased the further south you went, with amounts of generally an inch or less south of the Hal Rogers Parkway and Highway 80. Icy roads caused a fatal car accident just north of Clay City in Powell county.
