An area of low pressure moving east from the Great Lakes and a second low dropping southeast from Canada on the 29th merged over the Gulf of Maine on the 30th, then intensified rapidly. The storms brought heavy snow to much of western Maine. Most of the area received 4 to 8 inches of snow; however, a band of 8 to 14 inches fell from Sagadahoc and Androscoggin Counties through southern Somerset County.
