Event narrative
Dense fog played havoc from the late evening hours of March 10th to shortly after sunrise on March 11th, contributing to several accidents and numerous school closings. This dense fog was a factor in 2 separate accidents, the first occurring around 10 pm local time on Interstate 65 near mile marker 188, with a second in the early morning hours of the 11th. A car and semi collided, resulting in the death of a passenger in the car. Other vehicles became involved in the accident with additional injuries reported. A second accident occurred in the same area, likely due to traffic stopping for the first accident, causing yet another fatality as well as several injuries.
Wider weather episode
Widespread dense fog, with visibilities reduced to as low as 20 feet, created hazardous driving conditions during the morning hours of March 11th. The fog was partially blamed for a 22 car accident that killed 2 people on I-65 in White County.
