A 41-year-old man drowned in a rip current while trying to rescue his 11-year-old son on an unguarded section of Fort Lauderdale beach. The man was a good swimmer but swam directly against the current. His son survived. Two other children were rescued from a nearby rip current with an 11-year-old female requiring hospitalization.
