A severe thunderstorm produced wind gusts of 70 to 80 mph and caused about $1.2 million dollars in damage in the Thorofare section of West Deptford Township near Interstate 295. The worst wind damage was on Tilton Road where four homes suffered damage from falling trees. Most of the wind damage occurred in the area bounded by Jessup Road to the south, Grove Avenue to the west and Delaware Street to the northeast. No injuries were reported. The storm hit about 1135 a.m. EDT. A 100-year-old barn was destroyed. Part of the New Jersey Department of Transportation's roof was peeled away as was the roof of a warehouse. Two other buildings also had roof damage. Utility poles were snapped on Jessup Road and two trailers were flipped over. Numerous trees and limbs were toppled and torn off throughout the township and this included Passaic Avenue. One farm lost its entire corn and tomato crop.
