Precipitation began as snow before dawn, accumulating as much as .4 in the town of Hampstead. The precipitation transitioned to freezing rain by late morning, with reports of a quarter inch of ice accumulation along the entire coast.

The wider storm

Low pressure moved off the coast of Florida and tracked northeastward. The progression of the low combined with high pressure centered over Virginia produced ice and some snow over the region.
