Thunderstorm wind gusts ranging from 55 to 69 mph were reported from Frenchtown through Missoula. A large portion of the roof of the fire lab at the Smokejumper Center was blown off with damage estimate of $250,000. One man died in Frenchtown as he sought shelter under a tree and it fell on him. A house trailer was blown on its side a half mile north of exit 96 of Interstate 90, while 8 or 9 power poles were broken in half near the Stone Container plant. A wind gust to 61 mph was recorded at Missoula Airport.
