Event narrative
Temperatures climbed into the 90s for six straight days from July 16-21. Numerous hospitals in Kansas City reported treating heat related illnesses during this period. The temperature at the Downtown Kansas City airport reached 100, 102 and 101 degrees on July 19, 20 and 21 respectively with afternoon heat indices between 110 and 115 degrees. An 89 year old woman died in her home at the 4500 block of Forrest Avenue as a result of the heat.
