July started off where June ended. Another month for the record book concerning the excessive heat wave of 1998. The average temperature was 88.5 degrees or the warmest July on record and the warmest month on record for any year. The previous record was 87.9 degrees in July 1984. Shreveport also set a record for the highest average monthly maximum temperature of 100.7 degrees as well as any month. The previous record was 100.3 degrees set in July 1875. July in Shreveport reached or exceeded 27 days greater than 100 degrees and 5 days equalled or exceeded 105 degrees.
