Event narrative
The White River rose well out of its banks, closing portions of some roads, including Indiana Route 257, about 4 miles northeast of Algiers in Pike County. A 29-year-old male drove his vehicle around barricades on Route 257 and drowned while attempting to cross flooded portions of the road. The incident occurred about 1/4 mile south of the east fork of the White River shortly after noon on June 22. At Petersburg, where flood stage is 16 feet, the river crested around 24 feet around June 23.
