Event narrative

A 25 acre wildfire occurred on Frost Lane in Huger, within the Francis Marion National Forest. The fire threatened multiple homes in the area, but no property damage occurred. One male victim sustained burns over 70 percent of his body while trying to contain the fire using a tractor.

Wider weather episode

A small wildfire developed following a prescribed burn in the afternoon hours. Conditions were warm and dry and the wildfire developed overnight. The wildfire spread toward a residential area.
