An intensifying low 300 miles south of Chignik (along the Alaska Peninsula) late Saturday evening, moved to 300 miles south of Kodiak as an intense 956 mb center 9am Sunday. It then continued northeast through the Gulf of Alaska, weakening near Middleton Island Monday afternoon. Brisk northeast winds preceded the front...which extended in an arc around the low to 60 miles south of Kodiak then east southeastward Sunday morning and just inland along the northeast Gulf Coast early Monday. Gusts reached 54 mph at Cold Bay and Kodiak and 55 mph at Middleton Island ahead of the front. Additionally, Kodiak broke a daily precipitation record with 2.75 inches falling on Sunday.
