In the midst of a strong pressure gradient over northern Alaska, high pressure over western Canada shifted slightly to allow a down-valley pressure gradient from the Canda border of Zone 7 to Delta Junction. Peak gust at Delta Junction during the event was 54 mph. During the same period, several disturbances aloft moved over Zone 6 causing winds to increase in channeled areas; in particular Golovin reported gusts to 66 mph on the 27th and gusts to 72 mph on the 29th.
