Event narrative
The official low temperature in Las Vegas dropped to the 20 degree mark for the first time in eight years. Many locations throughout the the Las Vegas Valley experienced temperatures in the teens for a few hours before sunrise. This relatively rare event caused widespread damage to plants and sprinkler systems around the valley. Although no official damage estimate has been made, at least a few thousand homes lost sensitive plants or received damage to sprinkler piping. Lawn and garden shops had difficulty keeping replacement parts in stock.
