Extremely cold temperatures in Washington County the nights of April 1-3 destroyed much of the 1999 fruit crop. With the mercury dipping as low as 18 degrees, as much as 33,000 pounds of peaches were lost, along with damage to apricot, apple, and cherry tree crops.
