Brisk northwesterly winds, triggered by a strengthening ridge across the Alaska Peninsula and southwest Alaska mainland and persistent low pressure in the northeast Gulf of Alaska, spread into areas near and south of the Alaska Range Tuesday.Northwest wind gusts reached an ASOS adjusted 59 mph at Iliamna (in the extreme eastern corner of the Bristol Bay zone) Tuesday.At Seward, an area prone to strong northerly outflow winds, wind gusts...adjusted for the ASOS...peaked at 64 mph Wednesday morning. Gusts 40 mph or more ceased in the Seward area rapidly after 4pm Wednesday.Around Valdez, adjusted AWOS wind gusts reached 50 mph Tuesday.
