A moderate to strong front, moving northeastward through the Gulf of Alaska, was preceded by brisk east to north winds.Gusts across Kodiak Island, as recorded by the Booth Lake RAWS, reached 61 mph between noon and 3pm Thursday. Adjusted ASOS wind gusts of 64 mph, from the north, were reported at the Kodiak ASOS Thursday afternoon...along with rain and snow. the Coast Guard situation report received Thursday morning, mentioned a medevac at Old Harbor very early Thursday...reporting winds there as "Wind N/40-50kts" (46-58 mph).Middleton Island recorded pre-frontal, easterly winds (adjusted for ASOS under-reporting problems) as high as 81 mph Thursday afternoon between 2:35 pm and 2:55 pm. Frontal passage, which marked an abrupt end to the wind, occurred in and around Prince William Sound between 4 and 8 pm as the front continued north and northeast inland.
