Event narrative
A 53-year old male from Kissimmee was pulled from the surf at Daytona Beach around 1430 EST on May 31 and died an hour later in the hospital.
Wider weather episode
Strong easterly flow caused rough surf and strong rip currents late in the month. Several dozen rip current related rescues and two drownings were reported along the Volusia County coastline.
