A moderate low that moved through the central Aleutians, deepened and moved northeastward toward Nome early Tuesday. Brisk south to southwest winds developed along the southwest semicircle of the low. Gusts reached 64 mph at Bethel Monday evening as the low moved toward Nome. The front preceding the low was responsible for brisk southeasterly winds. ASOS adjusted gusts reached 68 mph at Cold Bay just prior to frontal passage at 7pm Monday, when winds abruptly dropped to less than 15 mph. Additionally, a water spout was reported just west southwest of Cold Bay.
