Event narrative

A bow echo moved across Mobile Bay and produced an extensive and prolonged period of high winds. Middle Bay Lighthouse recorded a 30 minute period of gale force winds. The highest wind recorded was 73 mph at Middle Bay Lighthouse which occurred at 318 pm. Other wind measurements of note are 53 mph at the Cedar Point C-Man station and 55 mph at the Dauphin Island C-Man station.

The high winds capsized a total of 10 boats, three of the boats were participating in the Dauphin Island Sailboat Regatta. The Coast Guard rescued a total of 40 people from the water. The number of injuries is unknown. There were 6 fatalities.
