Event narrative

Brisk southeasterly winds followed a front as it passed north and northwest through Southcentral Alaska Sunday afternoon and night. Gusts reached an adjusted 63 mph at the Portage ASOS between 3 am ADT and 4 am ADT Monday...where winds are greatly influenced by terrain and Portage Glacier. Brisk south to southeast wind gusts from 40 to 55 mph were also recorded around the Prince William Sound area, the Copper River Basin, around Anchorage and into the Susitna Valley. Thunderstorms preceded the front across the western and northern Copper River Basin, the Susitna Valley and the northwest and western Alaska Range.
