Oppressive heat and humidity gripped southeastern Georgia in August due to an area of upper level high pressure which stalled across the southern U.S. High temperatures from the mid 90s to near 105 degrees combined with dewpoints from the mid 70s to low 80s to produce heat index values between 110 and 120 degrees in early August.
