Thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening of the 28th produced damaging winds.Thunderstorm winds downed trees in Forest, Bassett, Shawsville, Danville, Laurel Fork, Amherst, Buena Vista, a 4 inch diameter tree limb in Blacksburg, 6 to 8 inch diameter trees onto U.S. Route 501, three miles north of Rustburg, trees and powerlines in Sedalia, Stewartsville, and Martinsville.Thunderstorm winds downed trees across Roanoke City, including trees that blocked Mudlick and Brandon Avenues.Thunderstorm winds downed trees east of Ft Chiswell, onto Interstate Route 81 from mile marker 85 to mile marker 88.A wind gust in Richlands was estimated at 65 miles per hour, by a spotter.
