Wider weather episode

Strong and moist southwest flow combined with a thermal trough over the interior of Alaska spawned several showers across the Middle Tanana Valley during the afternoon of the 19th. These showers produced several outflow boundaries and strong winds were observed at the Fairbanks Airport during the afternoon. The strongest gust that was reported at the Fairbanks ASOS was 41 kt ( 47 mph). These winds brought down some trees and caused brief local power outages. One tree fell onto the roof of a Fairbanks home, damage unknown but likely minimal. The strong winds also caused a series of small spot fires around the Fairbanks area from the downed power lines.
