This wild fire started on August 28 and was only 20 percent contained as September began. On September 4 it was 100 percent contained by 2765 firefighters after consuming 63,486 acres. Fire fighters continued to mop up hot spots inside the containment line through mid September. Thirteen fire fighters sustained minor injuries in fighting this fire, six of these occurred in late August and seven in early September. Property damage occurred in August as the fire moved through the Apple and Lucerne Valleys. The cost of fighting the fire was $11.7 million.
