Event narrative

An intense 968 mb low in the northeast Gulf of Alaska 'coffin corner' Monday afternoon, rotated northwest and began weaken rapidly to a position near Hinchenbrook Island at 4 am ADT Tuesday. Strong southwest winds were observed at Middleton Island along the southeast quadrant of the storm...however these winds were short-lived as the low rapidly weakened. Peak ASOS adjusted winds at Middleton Island reached 69 mph from a west southwest direction between 4:15 am and 4:35 am Tuesday.
