40 mph winds with gust to 55 mph first blew through the Cascade foothills. After those easterly winds died down, southerly winds of the same magnitude blew through central Puget Sound. The easterly winds toppled a tree which killed a hiker and the southerly winds knocked out power to 50,000 homes. The strong southerly winds also knocked a few trees onto houses and closed a few roads for several hours.
