Event narrative
An intense low developed in the Northern Gulf of Alaska and brought devastating winds to the Northern half of the Panhandle. A fishing vessel was lost in Stephens Passage with 3 persons on board,\. There were several reports of downed trees and associated wind damage in Haines and Juneau. Peak winds from this event include 67kt at Sitka, 61kt at Skagway, 60kt at Juneau rock dump, 57kt at the Juneau Federal Building, 55kt at Mayflower Island, 53kt at Juneau Airport, and 53kt at Kake. Unofficial reports from mariners indicate winds in excess of 80kt occured during this storm in several of the inner channels of Southeast Alaska.
