What EF0 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF0 is light damage: shingles and siding peeled, gutters torn, branches broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 65–85 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A thunderstorm produced a tornado that moved through an open area near the Dimmit/Zavala County line. An irrigation pivot was overturned on a ranch along with some minor outbuilding damage. No other damage was found. The path and time were determined from radar. Max winds are estimated to be 80 mph.

The wider storm

An upper level short wave trough moved through the long wave trough over the southwestern states and interacted with a dryline to produce widespread thunderstorms. Some of these storms produced large hail, damaging wind gusts, and heavy rain that led to flash flooding.

Began near Winter Haven (28.6411, -99.8698).
