Event narrative

Lyon County Emergency Management reported that highway 342 through Silver City was flooded with water, gravel and debris. Traffic was diverted to an alternate truck route. The time of the flooding is estimated based on radar.

Wider weather episode

Persistent moderate to high atmospheric moisture combined with daytime heating to produce thunderstorms (many with heavy rainfall) early in the month. Periods of slow-moving thunderstorms combined with the heavy rain to bring flash flooding to western Nevada.
