The South Tybee Weatherflow site measured a 34 knot wind gust with a passing thunderstorm. A peak gust of 44 knots occurred a few minutes later.

The wider storm

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms developed in the afternoon hours within a surface trough with prevailing northwest flow aloft. These thunderstorms eventually progressed to the coast and produced strong wind gusts.
