The Weatherflow site on the Folly Beach pier measured a 40 knot wind gust with a passing thunderstorm. A peak gust of 42 knots occurred a few minutes later.
Wider weather episode
Scattered to numerous thunderstorms developed in the afternoon hours within a surface trough with prevailing northwest flow aloft. These thunderstorms eventually progressed to the coast and produced strong wind gusts.
