The South Tybee Weatherflow site measured a 44 knot wind gust with a passing thunderstorm. A peak wind gust of 46 knots occurred a few minutes later.

Wider weather episode

Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms developed in the afternoon hours just to the south of a stationary front. The thunderstorms developed and some become locally severe as they interacted with outflow boundaries and the sea breeze. Strong convective wind gusts occurred along the coast and adjacent coastal waters as the storms pushed toward the beaches.
