Event narrative
A severe thunderstorm produced a wind gust of 53 knots (61 mph) at Brandywine Shoal Light in lower Delaware Bay.

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms formed in the warm sector of the Susquehanna Valley and Maryland panhandle and moved through Delaware Bay and the Atlantic coastal waters off the southern New Jersey and Delaware coasts during the evening of the 9th. A warm front lifted northeast into the Lehigh Valley and central New Jersey during the afternoon of the 9th. This permitted sufficient daytime heating preceding an approaching cold front for thunderstorms to maintain their strength as they moved through the area waters.
